Functionalities and Benefits How to Use REFERENCES

What are rice peptides?
Rice peptides are peptides (small protein fragments), obtained by hydrolyzing (breaking down) rice proteins, a chemical process involving the use of enzymes. While protein molecules contain at least 50 amino acids, rice peptides typically contain 2 -20 amino acids. Rice is the edible cereal grain of the grass species called Oryza sativa. It is the world’s third highest produced agricultural commodity (after sugarcane and corn) and the most widely consumed staple food crop for more than half of the world’s population. Harvested rice (also called paddy rice) is cleaned and polished into white rice which is what is sold in the markets. Rice bran which is a by-product of this process is the raw material popularly used to produce rice peptides (1, 2).
The use of rice in the esthetic world dates to ancient times. The Chinese, Japanese and Southeast Asian women have for centuries used rice water to grow their hair and enhance their skin health. Today with modern technology, peptides are extracted out of rice and incorporated in facial serums and body creams to boost skin health. Furthermore, rice peptides are produced as supplements that are orally consumed, resulting in health benefits that by far surpass topical application on the skin (3).

Benefits

  1. Reduces hypertension. Rice peptides have been proven to show anti-hypertensive actions due to their vasodilatory (widening) activity in the mesenteric arteries, which distribute blood from the heart’s main artery to most of the gastrointestinal tract. When the blood vessels are wider, blood flows with ease and consequently the pressure it exerts is lower (4).
  2. Stimulates collagen production. Research studies have proven that skin treatment with rice peptide extracts resulted in a significant increase in the collagen production in skin cells. In one of such studies, treatment with 1% of rice peptides resulted in a boost in the production of collagen I by about 42% after 48 hours. Collagen is a vital protein in the skin that is responsible for the elasticity and toughness of the skin texture (5).
  3. Hydrates and nourish the skin. Rice peptides inhibit the activities of the enzyme hyaluronidase, which is responsible for breaking down hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a substance naturally found in the connective tissues of the body. It has exceptional water holding capacity, thus moisturizing the skin, increasing its viscosity, and youthfulness. A low concentration of hyaluronic acid in the skin results in dry and wrinkled skin, which is prone to irritation (6).

Reduces photoaging. Rice peptides help reduce photoaging of the skin by protecting the skin from the damaging effects of ultraviolet light. Photoaging is aging that is accelerated because of prolonged exposure of the skin to ultraviolet light or light from the sun (7).

Nutrimore Rice Peptide is a top-quality supplement, produced from rice bran. It comes as a white powder and packed 20kg/bag. It has a low moisture content (≤7.00) and good microbial properties making it last for 2 years. Besides, storing at home is easy:  in a cold dry place away from direct sunlight. Furthermore, it has a very small molecular weight of 1000, Daltons, easing its digestion and absorption in the body.
Nutrimore Rice Peptide can be consumed alone by mixing it in a glass of warm or cold water. It makes a great addition to liquid fruit juices, milk, smoothies, and yoghurt, by reason of its great solubility. It can also be blended with proteins, vitamins, and vegan collagen (for that extra protein enhancement).
